Derek Carr broke many hearts this Saturday when he announced his retirement from the NFL. After having played 11 seasons in the National Football League, the quarterback has decided to hang up his cleats mainly as a result of his injured shoulder. Carr injured his right shoulder multiple times and his rotator cuff apparently never fully healed.
Carr posted a retirement message on his Instagram announcing his retirement and thanked the coaches, the staff and also the fans who have journeyed with him in his football career. Heather Carr, Derek Carr’s wife, responded with her own tribute to her husband’s retirement from his beloved game.
“We have been incredibly blessed, and we are forever grateful and humbled by this experience. It’s difficult to find the right words to express our thanks to all the teammates, coaches, management, ownership, team officials and especially the fans who made this journey so special. Your unwavering support has meant the world to us.” Derek Carr posted on his Instagram account.
“Happy retirement my love! I’m so proud of you! What an amazing 11 year career. All your records, pro bowls, and accomplishments on the field don’t even compare to the husband, dad and man you are off the field. I am so excited for what the Lord has next for us! There is so much more I want to say but I’ll just tell you in person 😉” Heather Carr captioned her Instagram post, sharing several pictures from her husband’s NFL career.

Derek Carr last played for the New Orleans Saints whom he joined in 2023. Before that, the quarterback played for the Las Vegas Raiders from 2014 to 2022 after he was selected by the team as the 36th pick in the second round of the NFL draft.

Derek Carr’s Retirement Leaves Gaping Hole In New Orleans Saints Team
Meanwhile, Derek Carr’s sudden retirement has seriously worried the New Orleans Saints as the team is left without a strong quarterback. According to recent rumors, the Saints are hoping to bring in veteran Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback.

Rodgers was let go by the New York Jets in March this year after a subpar season with them. The quarterback has been shown interest by several NFL teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Minnesota Vikings and now the New Orleans Saints. However, Rodgers has yet to commit to any team. There are also rumors going around that Rodgers may simply up and retire from the game altogether.
