The Denver Broncos have signed former 49ers star safety Talanoa Hufanga. Denver starts free agency with a splash move, signing Hufanga to a three-year $45 million deal, with $20 million guaranteed.

What Hufanga Brings to Denver
At just 25 years old, Hufanga has had a great start to his career. In 2022, he was named a pro-bowler and first-team All-Pro after a 97-tackle and four-interception season. Since then, he’s dealt with injuries that have made him miss 17 games in the last two seasons, 10 of which were in 2024.
Missing half of all games over the course of two seasons is a big concern, but when Hufanga is healthy, he’s one of the league’s best safeties. And with this move George Paton has quietly built one of the best secondaries in the NFL.

Hufanga is now paired up with Brandon Jones in the safety room and will play alongside cornerbacks Patrick Surtain and Riley Moss. But Hufanga’s strong suit isn’t necessarily y in coverage. He will play more of an enforcer roll in Vance Joseph’s defense.
Fixing the Run Defense
It’s no secret that Denver struggled to defend the run 2025. Top tier teams like the Ravens and Bills ran all over Denver in 2024. Adding Hufanga, who was graded as one of the top safeties against the run, will help Denver patch that hole.
It’s also being reported by Michael Silver that the Broncos are also interested in Hufanga’s former teammate, Dre Greenlaw.
