To say that Russell Wilson’s stint with the Denver Broncos was a failure is one of the biggest understatement of 2024.
Things didn’t work out for him at Mile High City, and the fact that Sean Payton didn’t like working with the one-time Super Bowl champ during their only year of collaboration is an open secret no one talks about.
Mr. Unlimited now has a chance to rewrite the narratives around him after signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Skip Bayless is all for the move, even using the terrible experiences Wilson had in Denver as motivation he will use to put up better numbers in Steel City.
Skip Bayless believes the Denver Broncos humiliated Russell Wilson
Bayless used his platform on Undisputed to talk about Wilson’s saga during his final year with the Broncos. He believes that the team gave him enough motivation to perform better with his new team and take them to a deep playoff run.
The Daily Mail’s Max Winters wrote about what the 35-year-old went through with the team and how he will use it to his advantage:
“Russ went through a lot last year and I think he got humiliated by the benching. He is a star and he’s married to a star and he’s got star power.
“Because of that, I think he’s gonna come into Pittsburgh with a little chip on his shoulder.”
Bayless said this a week after the Broncos informed Wilson that they will be moving forward with a new person to make the pass under center.
Bayless also noted that Wilson should still be in good enough shape to make a positive impact in the NFL:
“I’m gonna put in front of his age, 35. I’m gonna put an ‘only’ 35 because in this age we live in, after what we saw Tom Brady do at 45… once upon a time, I would’ve said you’re on the downside. He could still be in his prime at age 35.”
During his two years with the Broncos, Wilson threw for 6594 passing yards, 42 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions. While these numbers are impressive on paper, his 4.5% TD rate was lower than his 6.2% rate with the Seattle Seahawks.
With the Pittsburgh Steelers set to play the Broncos this season, it won’t be surprising to see the game end up as an emotionally-charged affair.
