The Denver Broncos are reportedly staying with Russell Wilson as their quarterback, but he’ll be their backup quarterback to Jarrett Stidham for the next two weeks and the playoffs if they can make it.
The Broncos shocked the NFL world Wednesday by benching Wilson, the league’s seventh-best quarterback in passer rating this season. Many fans and pundits are trying to speculate how the Broncos could move on from Wilson. The Broncos owe Wilson at least $85 million if they choose to cut him in the offseason.
Prospects for the Broncos at quarterback are slim. They’ve won too many games to take one of the highly coveted signal callers in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Free agency will be hard to land a talented veteran as the Broncos will start the offseason in the red by over $18 million, according to Over The Cap.
The Denver Broncos are planning to keep Wilson as No. 2
According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the Broncos aren’t planning to part with Wilson. The Broncos plan to list Wilson as their number two quarterback on the depth chart.
Russell Wilson isn't going anywhere for now: The #Broncos plan to dress him as their No. 2 quarterback, per source.

The Broncos are stuck with Wilson. And whether Wilson plays in Denver or not, the Broncos will have to pay him enough money that it will alter their roster for the next few years.
What the Broncos do in the offseason with Wilson is anyone’s guess. But their best hope is for Wilson to play at a high-level next year. Making Wilson the highest-paid backup in the NFL isn’t going to help with anything.
