The Denver Broncos’ linebacker position has been decimated with injuries throughout spring practices and the start of training camp. Dre Greenlaw missed spring practices because of a quadriceps injury and is on a pitch count to open camp. Drew Sanders sustained a ligament injury in his foot on Saturday, potentially sidelining him for the rest of camp and the start of the regular season.
To make matters worse, the Broncos’ other starter suffered an injury as well.
Denver Broncos’ starter injured his hand

Alex Singleton exited Monday’s practice with an apparent hand injury. The tackling machine recently recovered from an ACL tear sustained in Week 3 of the previous season. Singleton underwent tests and an MRI to determine the severity of the injury, and given his importance to the defense, many fans held their breath, hoping that another linebacker would not suffer anything significant.

Denver Broncos’ tackling machine set to miss 1 week of practice

According to Mike Klis of 9News, Alex Singleton suffered a broken thumb and will undergo surgery. As Klis points out, he is expected only to miss 7 to 8 days of practice before he can put a club on. Singleton should return after a week’s absence and will be ready for the start of the 2025 season.

Who replaces him at LB?

The expectation is for Justin Strnad to take over as the starting linebacker for the time being. The former fifth-round pick is primarily known as a special-teams player but filled in as the starter in 2024 following Alex Singleton’s injury. Strnad recorded a career high 73 tackles, eight TFLs, and three sacks in 17 regular-season games and eight starts, plus five tackles in the playoffs.
