Although the Denver Broncos drafted RJ Harvey in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, they still looked to bolster the running back position heading into mandatory minicamp. The team may feel uncomfortable with Harvey starting Week 1 or prefer a veteran complement over Audric Estime and Jaleel McLaughlin. After all, no running back on the roster has played for more than four seasons.

J.K. Dobbins traveled to Denver on Wednesday, had dinner, and visited the Broncos’ facility on Thursday. He had a career year with the Los Angeles Chargers, rushing for 905 yards on 195 carries and nine touchdowns in 13 regular-season games, plus 26 yards on nine carries in the playoffs, finishing second in Comeback Player of the Year voting. Sean Payton explained that they visited with Dobbins because he was a “good football player” who could help the team win.

Denver Broncos add Comeback Player of the Year finalist

According to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, the Broncos have signed J.K. Dobbins to a one-year contract. As Pelissero and Rapoport point out, the deal is for $5.25 million. As a result, Dobbins will compete against RJ Harvey for the starting running back position in 2025.
