“Bet They Wish They Would Have” Deebo Samuel Sounds Off on Cincinnati Bengals’ Biggest Mistake

The Cincinnati Bengals are going to need to write a massive check this offseason.

After failing to come to terms on a long-term contract extension with Ja’Marr Chase, the star wide receiver is in the midst of one of the most prolific and productive seasons of his career, as he plays out this season on the final year of his rookie contract.

Chase has already caught 66 passes for 981 yards and 10 touchdowns through the first 10 games of this season, including currently being in the midst of a torrid two game stretch in which he’s caught 18 passes for 307 yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Deebo Samuel suggests that the Bengals are going to have major regrets about not getting a Chase deal done during the offseason, before he had the chance to have some a dynamic season.

“I bet they wish they had,” Samuel said, during a recent episode of his Cleats and Convos podcast. “Man, week-to-week that boy is showing folks why they should have went on ahead and cut the check.”

This season, Chase is one of the bigger bargains across the sport, collecting approximately $9.8 million from the Bengals this season, on the heels of Justin Jefferson to a four-year deal worth $140 million prior to the 2024 campaign kicking off.

“Now, the Brinks truck is going to be more than one,” Samuel joked. “It’s going to be about two of them.”

Samuel says that if he were in the Bengals’ shoes, he’d have handled the situation much differently.

“I don’t think it was a great [decision],” Samuel explained. “Now, with him playing the way he’s playing, and it was like ‘alright, now you’re going to make him mad,’ which was not what you wanted to do with how he’s playing now.”
