The San Francisco 49ers offense could be undergoing a minor overhaul this offseason. The 49ers have a big question on what to do with Brock Purdy. The quarterback could be looking at a contract in the ballpark of $55 million per year.
The 49ers took care of one target for Purdy in 2024, extending Brandon Aiyuk’s contract. Purdy had a strong pass-catching group that included Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Ricky Pearsall.
The 49ers could switch up that mix by trading away Samuel.
San Francisco 49ers expected to shop Deebo Samuel

Per the NFL Network‘s Ian Rapoport, the 49ers are expected to shop Samuel in the offseason.
“Niners’ star receiver Deebo Samuel, a linchpin of their offense since 2019, might have played his last down in San Francisco,” Rapoport wrote. “Sources say the 49ers are expected to explore trading Samuel this offseason. While it’s not a certainty that Samuel is done in San Francisco, it’s enough of a possibility that both sides appear to be at peace with moving on if it goes that way.”
The 49ers owe Samuel $17.55 million in 2025, the final year of his three-year contract extension that he signed in 2022 which was worth $71.55 million.
At 29, Samuel showed signs of slowing productivity in 2024. He caught 51 passes for 670 yards and three touchdowns, numbers that were significantly less than when he scored seven touchdowns in 2023. He’s recorded 4,792 yards receiving and 22 touchdowns in his six-year NFL career.
49ers rumored to be in play for Davante Adams

Rapoport’s report came one day after ESPN‘s Dan Graziano suggested the 49ers would be in play for New York Jets receiver Davante Adams.
“The Jets must address the future of receiver Davante Adams, whose $38.3 million cap hit is untenable,’ Graziano wrote. “A source told me Adams is intrigued by a return to the West Coast and would be open to potentially joining teams such as the Rams or Chargers — if he gets released. I would put the 49ers in the conversation, too. Adams grew up in Northern California.”
Adams had a solid year in 2024, recording 85 receptions for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns. Adams will be 32 at the start of the 2025 campaign.
Like last year in The Bay with Aiyuk, there appears to be more drama on the horizon with wide receivers.
