The New Year didn’t start well for Oregon and its head coach, Dan Lanning, because they watched Ohio State run up and down the field on them all day, losing 41-21 and ending their perfect season.
The Ducks were the best regular-season team, finishing 13-0 and being Big Ten champs. This earned them the number one seed in the playoffs, but they fell to a hot Ohio State team.
Dan Lanning Is The Next James Franklin?
Oregon beat the Buckeyes in the regular season, but that all changed in the Rose Bowl. Lanning and the Ducks looked lost on both sides of the ball, and now people are comparing him to another Big Ten head coach.
The 38-year-old finished his third season as head coach and has done a great job. However, some compare him to Penn State’s head coach, James Franklin, stating, “Dan Lanning is the Michael Jordan of James Franklins.”

Everyone in college football constantly criticizes Franklin for being unable to win a big game, and stating that Lanning is the Michael Jordan of Fraklins is invalid.
Lanning has taken the Oregon program to new heights in his first three seasons, and just because he lost to a great Ohio State team doesn’t mean everything he did this past season was a waste or a failure.
It’s hard to win a college football national title, and most coaches don’t get over that hump until after their fifth season being a head coach, so Ducks fans shouldn’t worry because they have one of the best coaches in the sport that many college football teams want.
