Dan Campbell has won over Detroit Lions fans. After decades of horrible teams and mediocrity, the team is finally in a position where they could take the division crown. There is definitely pent-up excitement that the fans are ready to get out. Campbell praised the fan base in a recent interview after they provided a raucous environment for their first preseason game.
Dan Campbell Praises Detroit Lions Fans
It was loud at Ford Field for the game against the Giants. Neither side was ready for that kind of environment in a preseason game.
“Our fans were unbelievable the other night. I mean, for a preseason game, you’re telling your young players and your rookies, ‘This is the first one, NFL game, it ought to be a pretty good atmosphere.’ But my god, I didn’t expect that. I don’t think any of them did. That’s unbelievable. That’s a packed house for preseason. It was awesome. They were using silent count on offense — in a preseason game! So it certainly helps. So that was awesome.”
The Giants had to use a silent count in a preseason game. The fans were engaged in the game even though it meant absolutely nothing. Many of the fan-favorite players didn’t even play in the game. This is really cool to see from a fan base that has not had much to cheer about in the past couple of decades.
Can They Take The North?
They should be one of the favorites going in. The Vikings are coming off of one of the luckiest seasons in NFL history and are a prime candidate for some regression. Green Bay has a new quarterback in Jordan Love and chances are the Packers are a couple of years away if all of their young players progress well. The Bears are in a similar position with Justin Fields probably needing a year or two before competing for division titles. This doesn’t make it a lock by any means but the amount of talent on this roster is undeniable.
Dan Campbell hopes this is the type of environment every team will walk into during the regular season. If they can have a massive home-field advantage, it will go a long way in helping them pick up a couple of extra wins.
