The Dallas Cowboys sent shockwaves across the football world on Wednesday when they pulled off a trade to acquire talented wide receiver George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
But to completely accommodate the former Georgia Bulldogs star wideout, the Cowboys needed to open a roster spot, leading to the release of wide receiver Seth Williams, a move that Dallas announced (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk).
“The team announced that they have waived Seth Williams off of their 90-man roster. Pickens was acquired from the Steelers in exchange for a third-round pick and an exchange of late-round draft choices.”

Williams isn’t a household name in the NFL, as he’s appeared in only two games (with a start) since entering the league in 2021.
Selected in the sixth round (219th overall) of the 2021 NFL draft by the Denver Broncos, the former Auburn Tigers wideout also had practice squad stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars before the Cowboys signed him to their practice squad in October 2024 and inked him to a reserve/future deal last January.
Williams isn’t much of a loss for the Cowboys, while Pickens projects to be a significant addition to Dallas’ offense, where he is expected to line up across CeeDee Lamb. In 2024, the Cowboys ranked 10th in the league with an average of 227.2 passing yards per game and third with 37.5 passes per contest.
