As the 2025 NFL season approaches, analysis reveals that the Carolina Panthers are struggling significantly on the defensive front. Despite efforts to improve their roster during the offseason, they remain ranked as one of the worst defenses in the league following the recent draft. This situation highlights ongoing concerns about their ability to compete effectively in a highly competitive division.

Carolina’s defense was historically poor in the previous season, allowing over 30 points per game and struggling against both the pass and the run. While the team made some strategic signings, including adding defensive talent, experts believe these moves are insufficient to transform the unit into a formidable force. The team’s defensive line lacks the depth and consistency needed to deter opposing offenses.

Analysts have pointed out that Carolina’s struggles are amplified by their inability to generate a reliable pass rush. With only 32 sacks last season, their defensive pressure was among the lowest in the league. Although they invested in rookies and free agents, significant questions remain about how effectively these players can contribute.

Critics have voiced concerns about the overall quality of the defensive secondary, which has not been adequately addressed. Despite having some talented individuals, the unit has shown vulnerability, particularly in high-pressure situations. This inconsistency raises doubts about their capacity to improve significantly in the upcoming season.

ESPN’s NFL Power Ranking Names Carolina Panthers’ Defense As Worst After 2025 Draft

Although Carolina had a good draft this year, the team’s defense isn’t projected to pop out next season. This is detailed more in an analysis by Gary Davenport for Bleacher Report.

The Carolina Panthers showed some signs of life over the second half of the 2024 season, but the defense was another story.

There was one team in the NFL that allowed over 30 points per game last year, and if you guessed the Panthers, you get a gold star. They were also dead-last in run defense, giving just under 180 yards per game. Only two teams managed fewer sacks than Carolina’s 32.

The team’s management appears aware of the challenges ahead but has yet to find a solution. With the draft and free agency now behind them, the focus shifts to player development and fostering a stronger team dynamic. Fans are left hoping that the new additions can blend effectively with existing players.

Carolina’s defense remains a significant concern as the 2025 season approaches. Despite efforts to enhance their roster, the team faces an uphill battle to climb out of the bottom tier of NFL defenses. The forthcoming season will be crucial for determining whether these changes can yield the desired results and improve their standing in the league.
