The Dallas Cowboys understand that there’s a need for an explosive running game to make their pass offense more accessible. They didn’t have this problem before, but they’re entering the 2024 season with no clear answer on what the running back room will look like.
While they brought back Rico Dowdle to provide cover in the RB position, there’s no clear indication among Cowboys fans on what the team wants to do to replace Tony Pollard.
The team tried to ease the tension by providing a proper update on what they are planning to do in the offseason to transform their questionable RB room back to full strength.
Dallas Cowboys plan to use the draft and free agency market to get their star running back

The Cowboys front office came forward and confirmed what many fans believed the Cowboys strategy would be for 2024: finding a young RB who plays differently to Rico Dawdle in the draft.
Per Dallas Cowboys’ Patrik Walker:
When posed the question of how the organization will handle the position in 2024, executive vice president and director of player personnel Stephen Jones hints at a two-fold approach — one that includes the 2024 NFL Draft.
“We’re looking at the draft, too,” said Jones. “We don’t have an established [RB] in the organization right now. It’s something we’ll be looking at — in terms of getting young there again. But I wouldn’t be surprised if we also address it [in free agency].”
Walker also wrote that the team is probably looking to acquire another RB before the draft starts. While they played five RBs other than Dawdle, not a single one of them started, which makes him believe they’re still looking for a dynamic 1-2 punch that can help them win games:
“In this day in time, everybody’s got complementary backs in this league,” Jones admitted., “This has become the norm. I see us not just fixing it with one player at the running back position, but with more than one player.”
Dawdle had a solid season in his third year with the Cowboys. While he didn’t get any starts, he carried the ball 89 times for 369 yards and two touchdowns on 4.1 yards per attempt. He also caught the ball for 144 yards and two touchdowns on 8.5 yards per reception.
Fans will be hopeful that whoever the Cowboys bring in will finally fill the hole Ezekiel Elliott left.
