The Dallas Cowboys started today with $11 million over the cap and have until March 13 to get under the cap.
Thankfully, one of their offensive linemen restructured their contract.
The Dallas Cowboys restructured the contract of their 9x Pro Bowl lineman
Dallas restructured the final year of Zack Martin‘s contract by converting $16.25 million of his salary into a signing bonus, adding a void year, and freeing up $13 million in cap space.
As a result, his base salary drops from $18 million to $1.75 million, and his cap number drops from $28.5 million to $15.5 million for 2024.
With the restructuring of Martin, Dallas is $1.8 million under the cap.
The elite guard signed a restructured contract last offseason
After holding out in training camp, both parties agreed to a 2-year, $36.85 million restructured contract with a $5.8 million signing bonus, $36.85 million guaranteed, and added three void years.
Martin appeared in 15 games, missing one with an ankle injury and one with an illness. Martin had three penalties, four sacks allowed, and a 69.8 PFF Grade, earning his 9th Pro Bowl and 7th first-team All-Pro Honors.
What are the salary cap implications if this is his last year?
If this is Martin’s last year in Dallas, the team can spread the $26.46 million in dead cap through 2026 instead of accelerating into a 2025 cap hit because he restructured.
