The Dallas Cowboys have won five Super Bowls, housed 23 MVP finalists, and won double-digit games 32 times. However, despite their numerous accolades across 65 seasons, it’s been tough sledding in recent years, specifically from a postseason perspective. A poor 1-3 playoff record since the 2021 campaign and zero trips to the NFC Championship in the past 28 seasons have left ‘America’s Team’ well past their glory years. One media personality believes that the Cowboys’ near three-decade run of shortcomings places their fanbase among the most miserable in sports.
Big Game Boomer, a big-time college football personality on Twitter, Spotify, and Instagram, who routinely posts rankings and lists that drive millions of impressions, went viral on Thursday for recording his top 50 most miserable fanbases in all of sports. Headlining the NFL and sports in general are the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets, but lagging shortly behind remains the Dallas Cowboys.

Big Game Boomer, a high-profile college football Twitter (also known as X) user, made waves on timelines heading into the weekend after releasing his top 50 most miserable fanbases in sports. With just two playoff births since 2003, the lowly Cleveland Browns came in second, while the New York Jets, who haven’t won the AFC East since 2002, clocked in with the top spot. However, after a mixture of MLB teams and colleges, the Dallas Cowboys place seventh among the most miserable sports fanbases.

Despite massive yearly expectations, Dallas has routinely fallen short, specifically during the Jason Garrett and Mike McCarthy eras. Garrett led the Cowboys from 2011 to 2019, winning the division thrice but failing to reach the NFC Championship. However, the past three seasons have been arguably the roughest. The NFC East squad has won 12 games each of the past three years while leading the league in scoring offense twice, but have won just one playoff game during that span. Dallas is fresh off a heartbreaking 48-32 blowout loss at home against the Green Bay Packers during Super Wild Card Weekend despite being a touchdown favorite.
Cowboys: Eyeing Return to Super Bowl

The Cowboys enter the 2024 season as a Super Bowl favorite despite last year’s brutal playoff loss to the Packers. Returning to lead the offense is quarterback Dak Prescott after earning MVP votes in 2023. Prescott completed 69% of his passes while tossing an NFL-best 36 touchdowns last year. Meanwhile, superstar pass-catcher CeeDee Lamb earned first-team All-Pro honors after a 135-reception, 1,749-receiving yard campaign. However, Cowboys fans have been critical of the spending of owner Jerry Jones this offseason.
After passing on a rusher during the 2023 NFL draft, Dallas returned Ezekiel Elliott after a short one-year hiatus with the New England Patriots. Elliott posted three Pro Bowl seasons with the Cowboys during his first stint but struggled during his final three seasons before landing with New England in 2023. He has failed to post over 4.2 yards per rush since 2019.
