The Dallas Cowboys enter the 2024 season with high expectations. The good news is that they signed wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to a contract extension. However, they have yet to give quarterback Dak Prescott a new contract extension. Micah Parsons is also going to need a new contract eventually.
There is a chance that the Dallas Cowboys take a step back from being successful this season. Dallas finished with a 12-5 record a season ago and lost to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wild Card Round. There has not been a repeat NFC East Champion in nearly 20 years.
Dallas Cowboys Find Their Future Starting Running Back In a 2025 NFL Mock Draft
The Dallas Cowboys might have the worst running back room in the NFL. They lost Tony Pollard this offseason in free agency to the Tennessee Titans. Dallas had to bring back Ezekiel Elliott in free agency. Elliott last season played with the New England Patriots.
Kyle Crabbs of the33rdteam.com predicts that the Dallas Cowboys will have the 19th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Crabbs has them selecting Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty. There is no doubt he would be the future running back for the Cowboys if selected here. Kyle Crabbs said:
“The Dallas Cowboys‘ draft philosophy, as of late, has undoubtedly leaned into drafting for needs on the roster. Tyler Smith, Mazi Smith, and Tyler Guyton were all apparent needs for the Cowboys at the time of their respective first-round selections.
Is there a more giant hole on Dallas’ roster than their running back situation?
Suppose you believe in Dalvin Cook and Ezekiel Elliott in 2024 — more power to you. I just don’t see a happy ending there. While top-of-the-draft running back draft value has taken a hit recently, Dallas was willing to draft Elliott in the top-five overall picks. That makes Jeanty’s selection at No. 19 much easier to digest and appreciate as an excellent skill fit.”
Ashton Jeanty rushed for a school-record 267 yards and six touchdowns in a Week 1 win for the Boise State Broncos. They will face the #7 Oregon Ducks in Week 2. He had 20 carries in that game and averaged 13.4 yards per carry.
Cowboys Could Also Draft a Quarterback In the 2025 NFL Draft
If the Dallas Cowboys do not re-sign Dak Prescott, there is a chance that Dallas will find its next franchise quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft instead of selecting Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty. There is a chance that they will not be able to draft Carson Beck of Georgia or Shedeur Sanders of Colorado, but they will have other quarterbacks to choose from.
Quinn Ewers from Texas or Cam Ward from Miami could be the choice here for the Dallas Cowboys. Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss and Drew Allar from Penn State will be other quarterbacks to watch for in the 2025 NFL Draft process during the 2024 college football season.
