Colorado football did not play in the Big 12 Championship nor make the College Football Playoff. However, they secured just their 15th nine-win season since 1902. The Colorado Buffaloes also housed two of the most electric playmakers in football, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way superstar Travis Hunter. This week, Hunter became one of the most recognized players in college football history.
On Saturday, after winning the AP College Football Player of the Year Award and earning Walter Camp, Chuck Bednarik, Fred Biletnikoff, Lott, and Paul Hornung honors, Hunter won the sport’s most prestigious distinction, the Heisman Trophy Award. He became the second winner from Colorado football, joining Rashaan Salaam. However, with the two-way Hunter failing to lead in any counting category this season and Boise State Broncos superstar rusher Ashton Jeanty pacing a historic season, fans took aim at the Colorado star following his Heisman victory.
Colorado Football Star Travis Hunter Under Fire
According to Fox College Football:

YOUR 2024 HEISMAN TROPHY WINNER: TRAVIS HUNTER
On Saturday, Colorado football megastar Travis Hunter became the 79th winner of the Heisman Trophy Award. Hunter played a remarkable amount of snaps this season at wide receiver and corner, accumulating 92 receptions, 1,153 receiving yards, 14 receiving touchdowns, 32 tackles, 11 passes defended, four interceptions, and one TFL. Hunter also led Colorado to their second-best season since 2002 and a berth in the Alamo Bowl against BYU.
Hunter’s biggest competition for the Heisman Trophy Award was Boise State Broncos elite rusher Ashton Jeanty. Across 13 games, Jeanty rushed 344 times for 2,497 yards and 29 touchdowns, all FBS highs. With a strong finish to the season, he could become the new all-time leader in single-season rushing yards and touchdowns, records held by Barry Sanders of Oklahoma State fame. Jeanty also led Boise State to their first-ever College Football Playoff berth. With Hunter winning the award over Jeanty, some fans went as far as calling the latter the ‘Media’s Heisman’:
Kinda lets you know the award means nothing doesn’t it.

What a joke. Guess number of snaps is a new stat now.

Ashton Jeanty vs. the Coach Prime Marketing Train was always going to be a losing battle unfortunately.
— Jonathan Chiang (@wcSJKnox) December 15, 2024
Wow. The Heisman has lost all credibility. It’s just a popular vote not the best player in CFB. @HeismanTrophy trust you really robbed Jeanty.
— Chef Shrimp (@shrimpmasterJei) December 15, 2024
Not deserved. he’s a great player but jeanty had an unreal season

Yay, you have a coach that can influence the media and not go to playoffs.

How it feels watching a once in a generational season by Ashton Jeanty just to lose the Heisman Trophy to Travis Hunter

Mid in two positions doesn’t make you an elite player.

We knew ESPN would do this
