Colorado Buffaloes star Travis Hunter has been the heart and soul for the Buffaloes on his way to a Heisman-hopeful season. The two-way star has put together a stellar start on both sides of the ball this season. With 49 receptions for 587 yards and six touchdowns on offense to go along with 16 tackles and two interceptions on defense, Hunter looked to be taking off for a sure-fire Heisman candidate season.
Things took a slight turn for Hunter during the Buffaloss’ match-up with 16th-ranked Kansas State where he sustained a shoulder injury that would have him leave the game never to return. Although his time was cut short Hunter was able to produce three catches for 26 yards and a tackle in Colorado’s 31 -28 loss to Kansas State.
Travis Hunter Puts Up Heisman Numbers To Begin Season
Travis Hunter has compiled a Heisman-hopeful season throughout the Buffaloss’ first six games. He is a crucial piece to both Colorado’s offense and defense. Providing a steady safety blanket for Shedeur Sanders, Hunter has already surpassed his offensive touchdown total for last season. He has displayed the same prowess on defense pacing himself to surpass all of his last season defensive totals. Travis’ stellar play has landed him atop of many mock draft boards. Heisman hopeful numbers indeed but Hunter’s recent shoulder injury will certainly play a major role in the outcome of such a terrific start.
Buffaloes Lose Key Players In Close Conference Loss
The Colorado Buffaloes sustained major losses on the offensive side of the ball early and often in last Saturday’s loss to Kansas State. Receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. went down first following a catch and hit to the body early in the second quarter.
Two plays later, Travis Hunter went down with a shoulder injury. Receivers Omarion Miller and Terrell Timmons Jr were both sidelined in the second half with lower body injuries. Shedeur Sanders told the media, “I never thought four receivers would get injured in one game. That’s just ridiculous.”
Although Sanders lost many of his main targets he still managed to put on an impressive showing, dishing out 388 yards and three touchdowns to nine different Buffaloes. The Buffs and their late-game efforts were not enough to overcome the stout Kansas State Wildcats in this Big 12 bout eventually falling 31-28.
Buffs On The Road To Tucson
With the possibility of their top two wide receivers out for significant time, the Colorado Buffaloes will be looking to the run game and some new names to step up on their upcoming road trip to Arizona. The Buffs will still have their steady quarterback Shedeur Sanders at the reins as they look to bounce back and spoil Arizona’s homecoming. The Arizona Wildcats will be fired up looking to get back on track on the aforementioned homecoming after dropping to Utah and Texas Tech in their last two games. Coach Sanders and Coach Brennan will indeed have their hands full in this hotly-contested Big 12 matchup.
