The College Football Playoff committee will select their 12-team postseason field in less than a week. Among the 12 teams competing for the national title will be the winners of the four major conferences, seven at-large bids, and the best team in the Group of Five. On Tuesday, the CFP reupped their rankings, with the Big Ten and SEC having a top-12 high of four teams each, followed by the ACC with two. However, in 2023, the top-ranked Oregon Ducks, now with the Big Ten, represented the Pac-12. Meanwhile, the Big 12 leading ASU Sun Devils also came from the Pac-12, while the Southeastern Conference leader, the Texas Longhorns, came from the Big 12.
On the heels of the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff, fans continue their crusade towards the committee for an “SEC bias.” On Thursday, those same fans turned it up a notch when criticizing the CFP committee, with two former Pac-12 teams, one former American team, and a former Big 12 team likely all punching their ticket to the postseason in their new conference.
College Football Fans Clown CFP For League Parity
According to Brett McMurphy of The Athletic:
Parity today in college football: teams favored in conference title games Former Pac-12 team in 1st year in Big 10
Former American team in 1st year in ACC
Former Pac-12 team in 1st year in Big 12
Former Big 12 team in 1st year in SEC
In the new era of NIL and player empowerment, the college football power structure continues to shift away from the SEC. While juggernauts Alabama and Georgia have combined for five losses this season, the Texas Longhorns, formerly of the Big 12, will head to the SEC title as a near-field goal favorite. Meanwhile, in their old conference, it is the Arizona State Sun Devils, picked to finish last in the Big 12 by the media this offseason, one win away from a College Football Playoff Berth.
Also worth noting, SMU, formerly of the American, sits atop the ACC. Oregon, a longtime power in the Pac-12, has been stellar transitioning to the Big Ten, as they are the lone undefeated team left the FBS. With parity at an all-time high this season and the College Football Playoff extending to 12 teams, fans continue their push for a balanced postseason. On Tuesday, the CFP committee moved three-loss Alabama of the SEC over two-loss Miami of the ACC, outraging many fans. When those backing Alabama point towards conference superiority, many of those same fans now point at a Big 12 team being the best team in the Southeastern Conference circa 2024:
“It JuSt MeAnS mOrE iN tHe SeC” but yet a big 12 team can walk in and just own everyone in their first year 😂

A Mountain West team will be favored to finish 1st in the Pac12 next year to start the season.
And a WCC team for Basketball.
Parody?
Nope just College Football & Basketball— Carsten Meyer (@C_arstenMeyer) December 5, 2024
Brett if the SEC in Big 10 are so good why is it teams from the Big 12 and Pac-12 might win the conference…

And yet the CFP committee is still looking at Logos over resumes…..BYU should be in the playoff mix, their resume is better than a few teams who are "in"

Almost as though there was no basis for SEC or Big 10 preeminence beyond ESPN’s hype machine.

Former Independent team in 1st year in AAC

But I thought the Big 10 and SEC were head and shoulders above others. How could a team from other “horrible” conferences win?

And the playoffs system is forever doomed …. They will mess it up

last year:
acc's best team was american
big xii's best team was pac 12
big ten's best team was pac 12
sec's best team was big xiiit appears new schools have a significant advantage in new conference play bc of the lack of familiarity to their foes.

*CFB LAST YEAR…
“The PAC 12 and Big 12 are weak conferences.”
CFB this year….
Oregon playing in Big Ten Championship.
Arizona State playing in Big 12 Championship.
Texas playing in SEC Championship.
SMU (group of 5 last year) playing in ACC championship.
Hmmmm 🤔 https://t.co/xpDErGPrxs
