On Tuesday, the College Football Playoff rankings were updated. Following a historic weekend, with four of the top 16 teams falling against unranked foes (sans BYU), the CFP committee reshuffled the top of their rankings, most notably SEC powers Alabama and Ole Miss falling outside the top 12. Meanwhile, following a massive blowout win against the Army Black Knights, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish climbed two spots, sitting in the fifth spot in Tuesday’s rankings.
Since their improbable loss at home against the Northern Illinois Huskies as a 28.5-point favorite, Notre Dame has rallied to win nine straight games, with only one being decided by one score. However, despite their impressive runs, fans of Georgia, and college football as a whole, believe the committee still needs to remember Notre Dame’s brutal loss against NIU earlier in the year and their lackluster strength of schedule.
College Football Fans Bash Committee Over Notre Dame Placement

According to Chris Vannini of The Athletic:
Penn State beat a MAC team by 7 at home and trailed at halftime. I’ve been holding ND back as much as anyone because of the NIU loss, and ND fans have been mad at me over it. However, Penn State is the only team that can’t lean on the NIU thing as much as everyone else.
The College Football Playoff committee has the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as the fourth-best team with a loss, trailing Ohio State, Penn State, and Texas. Per the latest ranking, the fifth-ranked Irish team would earn the seventh seed, playing the SMU Mustangs in the first round. They would host SMU at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana. With a win, they would face the Texas Longhorns in the College Football Playoff in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, fellow one-loss program Indiana would play a road game at Penn State. Many college football fans argue that Notre Dame’s path is easiest, facing the second-best ACC team at home, while the Big Ten is left to cannibalize itself. Also worth noting, the top two-loss SEC teams, Georgia and Tennessee, would face off in the first round, much to the displeasure of the college football fans:

Notre Dame should be ranked behind SMU.
They're literally SMU with a loss to a MAC team being propped up by brand bias. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. pic.twitter.com/BYFMnmpa5D

There’s nothing “crazy” about it
Penn State barely lost to #2, Notre Dame lost at home to a MAC team
These takes are awful https://t.co/67fMapuuAS

I need a logic based explanation for Miami and Notre Dame above Georgia.
They both have SIGNIFICANTLY worse losses than us, and have a combined one ranked win (#20) compared to Georgia’s three ranked wins (#3, #8, #12)

Penn State has played 8 P4 teams that have a combined record of 52-47 (.525)
Notre Dame has played 6 P4 teams that have a combined record of 33-44 (.428)
Hope that helps https://t.co/nyzKjl6iX0

Notre Dame has a game on Saturday they need to win before playoff projections and rankings actually mean anything.

If Indiana lost to Ohio State in September, the Hoosiers would be Top 5 right now.
If Notre Dame lost to Northern Illinois last week, the Irish would be outside the Top 10 right now.
Recency bias at its finest.

Texas and Penn State continue to be the most overrated teams nationally by the playoff selection committee.
Notre Dame deserved to move up this week. Thrashed unbeaten Army while Penn State snuck by uber-conservative Minnesota.

lmfao do people forget that there's the very real possibility that penn state will have more ranked wins than notre dame after this weekend (oh, and penn state didn't lose to a 6-5 MAC team) https://t.co/0pxcnSXPag
