The College Football Playoff has expanded, and so has the B.S. surrounding the selection committee’s rankings. Nearly one year after CFP left out undefeated Florida State and Liberty, the selection committee is snubbing another undefeated program in favor of aiding teams in the SEC and Big Ten.
The Big Ten has four programs projected to make the CFP: Oregon, Ohio State, Penn State, and Indiana. The SEC has four programs projected to make the playoffs: Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, and Alabama.
There are five undefeated teams in the Associated Press’s Top 25. Only four undefeated teams are projected to make the CFP: Oregon, Miami, BYU, and Indiana.
The College Football Playoff is snubbing Army

Four more SEC teams outside the Top 12 rankings are ahead of 8-0 Army. The Black Knights are ranked No. 18 in the AP poll, but the selection committee has conveniently placed them at No. 25 on their rankings.
Army is having a spectacular season, blowing out nearly every opponent they’ve faced in 2024. The Black Knights have won every game by double digits. One knock on Army is that they have yet to play a Top 25 team, but they will face No. 10 Notre Dame on Nov. 23.
Once again, the selection committee is proving to the world that the CFP does not care about giving every undefeated team (and undefeated conference champion) an opponent to prove they’re the best team in the sport. With 12 total spots and seven at-large bids, there is no reason why every undefeated team in the FBS isn’t automatically placed in the CFP.
Boise State appears to be in Army’s way, and not 7 other at-large bids

With the expansion, the selection committee is favoring the Big Ten and SEC. All that has changed is that the now basically defunct Pac 12 (at least for the 2024 season) has paved a path for the Mountain West to be the conference that earns an automatic bid, as a one-loss Boise State was given a spot that an undefeated Army was not.
Why are teams like Liberty and Army allowed to compete in the FBS if they won’t have a path to win all of their games and compete for a national title?
It’s the only sport in the world that is rigged to give losing teams favorable standing to win a championship for rating and money. It’s shameful the selection committee would effectively ban and disgrace the sacred institution of Army at the expense of the Big Ten and SEC.
