A former college football captain is suing his alma mater. On Friday, news surfaced that ex-LSU Tigers star defensive back Greg Brooks Jr. remains unable to walk following surgery to remove a brain tumor in 2023 and will now sue the school and the affiliate medical center for negligence. A two-year starter with LSU who transferred from the Arkansas Razorbacks, Brooks underwent emergency brain surgery in September of last year but is still unable to walk and struggles with speaking.
Brooks’ lawsuit details that the LSU Tigers and head coach Brian Kelly threatened the defensive back’s starting position when he nearly missed practice for underlying issues related to a brain tumor. LSU’s athletic trainers also failed to promptly send Brooks for an MRI, especially with his symptoms increasing. Brooks’ horror story has fans in arms, angry at the school for handling the situation so poorly.
LSU’s Greg Brooks Surgery Fallout Has College Football Fans Distraught
Per Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports:
Former LSU team captain Greg Brooks is suing LSU & its affiliated medical center, per documents. He accuses coaches/trainers of negligence & claims a surgeon left him “permanently disabled.” A year after surgery to remove a brain tumor, Brooks can’t walk.
In 2023, Brooks started experiencing nausea and dizziness in early August while participating in preseason camp. Despite his symptoms increasing throughout the next week, LSU, one of college football’s top programs, treated him for vertigo. It was not until the following month that team trainers scheduled him for an MRI, which uncovered a brain tumor.
Brooks underwent emergency surgery at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center, an affiliate of the LSU Tigers. Brooks’ lawsuit claims the school “hand-picked” his doctor despite his lacking experience with the specific surgery. The defensive back cannot walk or use his right hand a year later. College football fans are heartbroken while infuriated with LSU and company:
Was it the same hospital they funneled funds away from to give to the football program

Says that “brain tumors are difficult to diagnose until serious” Once LSU found out, they helped him schedule a same day emergency surgery.
His surgeon told him that he’d be back to normal that night. But instead he’s permanently disabled.
Hard to blame LSU for a Dr’s mistake

One of the most concerning parts of this Greg Brooks lawsuit — which is all alleged — is that Brooks has apparently been unable to access the funds #LSU has raised for him through the Victory Fund. pic.twitter.com/R4EgVKnH10
