Colin Kaepernick is still making headlines despite the fact that he last took a snap in the NFL in nearly a decade ago (2016). The 37-year-old former quarterback has made numerous public statements over the last few years saying he is still training to return to the league.
While it wasn’t on the gridiron, Kaepernick made headlines at the Met Gala on Monday.

Colin Kaepernick made a surprise appearance on the 2025 Met Gala red carpet:
Every year, the star-studded gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City attracts an impressive crowd of actors, musicians, models, designers, and even athletes.
This year, the event celebrates “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
To reflect this year’s theme, the dress code for the 2025 Met Gala red carpet tonight was “Tailored For You.”
One surprise attendee this year was former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and his longtime girlfriend, Nessa Diab.
Kaepernick came tailored in a sleek maroon suit with black detailing while having his hair combed out in an afro.
Nessa stunned in a full-length black gown topped with a dramatic puffer-style jacket.

Colin Kaepernick’s name frequently surfaces in conversations about the NFL since he has been trying to get back in for a second chance following his protest during the national anthem in 2016.
Kaepernick’s decision to kneel during the anthem, protesting against police brutality and racial injustice, sparked controversy and debate, ultimately impacting his career.
In 2024, Kaepernick told Sky Sports that he is “still training, still pushing” for a return to the NFL.
A team hasn’t signed him since he became a free agent in 2017. The quarterback’s last NFL workout came in 2022 with the Las Vegas Raiders.
According to TMZ, Nessa Diab, Kaepernick’s longtime partner, said the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback continues to train for an NFL comeback “every day.”
Kaepernick is in hi slate 30s and even his supporters would say it is time to let that dream go.
