Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is not with an NFL team to start the season. Kaepernick was seen on video this summer training for the possibility that a league team would give him an opportunity to try out for a team this season.
Jim Harbaugh offered Colin Kaepernick a job
Kaepernick’s former coach, Jim Harbaugh, said the Los Angeles Chargers would not sign the activist as a quarterback this year. The Chargers were probably the best bet for Kaepernick to sign as a player, as he has not played in the league since 2016.
Harbaugh said Kaepernick has the option of joining the Chargers as an assistant coach in the future. In the meantime, Kaepernick has other business projects. He’s overseeing an AI startup, running Know Your Rights Camp, and has his own publishing company.
Kaepernick Publishing released a book on Tuesday
On Tuesday, Kaepernick Publishing released a long-anticipated book, We Are Free, You & Me, by the activist and his partner Nessa Diab. Per the publisher’s website, the book is about what freedom is about:
“Authored by Colin and Nessa, with illustrations by Gladys Jose, We Are Free, You & Me is a lyrical affirmation of what freedom truly means—and celebrates the principles of Colin and Nessa’s Know Your Rights Camp, an international movement that has inspired thousands of young people to rejoice in their inherent goodness.”
Kaepernick and Diab are set to donate all of the proceeds to Know Your Rights Camp.

Kaepernick has plenty of ventures to take care of this fall. One has to wonder how he would have time to oversee his activist empire if he joined a team this fall, or in the future.
Still, Kaepernick has put in the work to stay relevant in the football world, at least in Harbaugh’s eyes. If he really wants an opportunity to be in the NFL, Kaepernick will join the Chargers staff, publishing company, AI startup, and all.
