Coach Prime has been saying the entire offseason that this season is about expectations. “The expectation is now,” Coach Prime told his players. This football team has to have it together because North Dakota state will upset Colorado. These guys have to give it 100% every single day. This is not the only football team that’s grinding right now. Every football team out there is grinding and putting in a lot of hard work, which is going to dictate who’s going to outdo.
Colorado fans are loving to see the guys run the football a lot better this season. Colorado’s run game this season is crucial because there’s no longevity in throwing the ball 100 times a game. Give the defense something to consider. As good as they can pass the football, running the football enables the offense to be a lot more explosive with the wide receivers the Buffs have.

Colorado: The RB Conversation
In today’s game, it’s necessary to have two backs. This season, the Buffs are deep in talent and those guys do a great job. They’ll have equal opportunity to show who are the best two guys. It’s hard to have three running backs in the game because of the scheme Colorado has built around having the best quarterback in the country.
Colorado running back depth:
-
- Dallan Hayden (#7)
- Isaiah Augustave (#23)
- Brandon Hood (#26)
- Micah Welch (#29)*
- Charlie Offerdahl (#44)
- Christian Sarem (#48)
Unfortunately, in some positions, there are limitations at the running back position. There are four players but only two players will travel. All of Colorado’s wide receivers can be starters on other teams but they may likely will only take eight. This is expected, no defense in the country can really stop this offense besides maybe Georgia, and even in so they will struggle with the wide receivers Colorado has.
The most talented player will not play on a team if he comprehends the playbook. They are willing to play a less talented player who knows all the plays over a guy who’s more talented.
True freshman standout RB Michael Welch is on the field balling and running defenders over. Who’s going to start at running back, what’s going to be the rotation? Here we have an interview with the running back coach Gary Harrell:
The depth of talent in Colorado
Even if the opponents try to play the pass, Colorado has wide receivers that virtually can’t be stopped. This is what makes Colorado very dangerous – if you want to play the pass they can run. If you want to play the pass you still have to stop the pass. If you want to load the box against Shedeur Sanders, good luck with that!
In various interviews over the summer Coach Prime made public how year one was about restoring hope and year two is about expectation. Having seen that change and mentality shift with him last year was a sense of hope.
Young players who don’t have the passion to be on special teams need to find it because that’s the only way to travel when low on the depth chart. Special teams could help a player stay around, travel with the team, and get familiar with the playbook and real-game speed. Just sticking around increases a player’s chances to get on the field. My advice to a player who’s a dawg is to remain patient, stay in the game, and take what opportunity is available very seriously.
Colorado: The Chase for Top 25
The players, the ones on the football field and we will know this upcoming August 29th. So, how do you as a player show you’re a dawg and one of those players is by performing in practice? This is the best year for this Colorado Buffalo football team to be successful. It has to be this year: National Championship, playoff-bound year expectations.
