Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel, who won a Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints, believes that the shocking NFL draft slide of Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders to the fifth round was a “blessing in disguise.”
The co-host of FS1’s “The Facility” recently said that Sanders’ controversial NFL draft fate should give the former Colorado Buffaloes signal-caller a “chip on his shoulder.”
Daniel also posted the following message for Sanders, as the young quarterback begins his life in the pros: “Shedeur Sanders is fighting for a spot on an NFL TEAM…Put your head down & work. Forget about being a starter for now.”
Before the draft, Daniel said that for him, Cam Ward was the best quarterback in the 2025 NFL draft class, but also praised Sanders, albeit with some reservations.
“Shedeur is a classic drop-back passer. If you were to put Shedeur in the NFL eight years ago, when it was just about pocket passing, I think he’d be a really, really [coveted] draft pick. He’s not super athletic. He takes a lot of sacks. Doesn’t throw the ball down the field a ton. I still think he’s got a lot of good game to him. … His ceiling, I just don’t know how much higher it can get, but that goes back to fit and system.
Sanders adds intrigue to Cleveland Browns’ QB room that needs an identity

With Sanders in the fold, the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback room has become a much more intriguing one. Deshaun Watson is the lead QB, while Joe Flacco, who turned 40 years old last January, decided to reunite with Cleveland this offseason.
Kenny Pickett was also acquired by the Browns before drafting former Oregon Ducks star QB Dillon Gabriel in the third round of the 2025 draft.
