The Cleveland Browns have been one of the most talked-about teams in the NFL this offseason. Of course, a major reason for this is due to the fact that they were the team that selected former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft. Prior to selecting Sanders in the fifth round, they also took Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel.
Indeed, the NFL world will be keeping a close eye on Cleveland’s quarterback battle during training camp, a competition that includes long-time veteran Joe Flacco and former Pittsburgh Steelers first round pick Kenny Pickett.
Whichever quarterback wins the job, though, will be going forward in an offense that will not feature four-time Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb.
Former Cleveland Browns Running Back Nick Chubb Is Visiting the Houston Texans, Expected to Sign

According to multiple reports, four-time Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb is set to visit the Houston Texans on Monday. Should the visit go well, he is also expected to sign with them.
Sources: #Browns free agent RB Nick Chubb, one of the most decorated players available, is expected to sign with the #Texans on Monday if all goes well with his physical, sources say.

Chubb, who played in eight games last season, is coming of a year that saw him carry the ball 102 times for 332 yards and three touchdowns. His 3.3 yards per carry were the lowest mark of his career by a wide margin.
That being said, it was a near miracle that Chubb was able to play at all in 2024. Two games into the 2023 season, he suffered a gruesome leg injury that required surgery. Many thought it could have ended his career, but he worked his way back and was, obviously, able to take the field again.
Cleveland Browns Fans Are Furious with the Front Office for Letting Nick Chubb Go

News of Chubb’s inevitable departure from Cleveland did not go over well among Browns fans on social media. After all, there was a time when he was one of the best running backs in the NFL, earning Pro Bowl nods every year from 2019-2022.
Andrew Berry and the @Browns should be ashamed.#DawgPound https://t.co/qlbHwRtZfZ

Enjoy the $5 seats @Browns fans! What an absolute train wreck!
They could’ve used a veteran like Nick Chubb to help ease the minds of a couple rookie QB’s. https://t.co/5A7c4NUcOz

Instead of Chubb as the starting running back, Cleveland has Jerome Ford currently listed as the top back on their depth chart. Last season, he ran the ball 104 times for 565 yards and three touchdowns.
But while he was more productive than Chubb, it is clear that the soon-to-be ex-Brown was far more popular with the fans.
