Clemson is going through a strange four-year stretch in its program, and the once-dominant Tigers are looking at missing the playoffs for their fourth straight season, but that isn’t even the worst thing that has happened in Dabo Swinney’s coaching career.
Last month, a settlement was reached in the House Vs. NCAA will only allow 105 players on a college football roster starting in 2025.
Clemson’s Dabo Swinney Is Not Happy With The New Rule
Many college football teams have over 105 players on their roster, and Clemson currently sits with 136 players.
With the cutdown of players, many people will lose their opportunity to be part of the team and even have their cool walk-on story, and Swinney is not thrilled with this new rule change.
In his article, Matt Connolly from On3.com stated that Swinney voiced frustration with the house settlement: “Obviously, we have to cut a lot of guys this year. It’s terrible,” Dabo Swinney said. “It’s the worst thing in my whole coaching career and what’s going on. But we’ve gotta cut a bunch of kids that have been in our program.”
Dabo Swinney blasted the House settlement making the roster cap 105 players:
“Obviously we have to cut a lot of guys this year. It’s terrible. It’s the worst thing in my whole coaching career…”

It’s sad to see players lose their opportunity to be part of major programs’ rosters due to the roster cuts, but at the same time, having 136 players on your team is a little too much.
Maybe this change will allow players who would never see the field at a school like Clemson go to a smaller school in the FBS or FCS and get some real playing time.
It will be interesting to see how the new rule affects teams next season and how they approach recruiting.
