The Cincinnati Bengals waited until late Monday night before making significant decisions regarding their running back room. Cincinnati agreed to terms with free agent rusher Zack Moss, planning on signing him to a two-year, $8 million move. No later than two minutes later, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Bengals released longtime starting running back Joe Mixon.
The recent roster shakeup marks a significant turning point for the AFC North’s offensive game plan. With the departure of Mixon, who had been a critical figure for the past seven seasons, the Bengals are signaling a new era in their running game strategy. This move has stirred mixed emotions among Bengals fans, who have witnessed Mixon’s contributions over nearly a decade, including helping the team make the Super Bowl in 2021.
Cincinnati Bengals Fans: React to Joe Mixon Release

Cincinnati Bengals fans quickly made their way to social media on the heels of the Zack Moss signing. It became tenfold when the organization released 2017 second-round pick and Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon immediately after. Bengals fans did hold back when showing their emotions about their new look running back room heading into next season.

Joe Mixon: Gone From Cincinnati After Seven Seasons

Before Monday, Mixon, the 48th overall pick in 2017, spent his entire NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals. He rushed for 1,034 yards and nine touchdowns last season. His best season came in 2021, totaling 1,519 scrimmage yards and ten scores while earning his first and only Pro Bowl nod. The Bengals made the Super Bowl that season, with Mixon rushing for 262 yards and scoring through four games. The Oklahoma product will leave Cincinnati with the third most rushing yards in franchise history, trailing only Corey Dillon and James Brooks.
Meanwhile, Zack Moss will head to Cincinnati as their most experienced back. The 26-year-old has played well over the past two seasons, rushing for 1,250 yards and six touchdowns on 4.5 yards per carry.
