Zach Wilson has not had an easy go of it throughout his first few years in the NFL with the New York Jets. That has led many to believe that the team could trade him to get a fresh start in the upcoming offseason. One team that has been linked as a potentially perfect destination would be the Kansas City Chiefs.
Granted, Wilson would likely prefer to be moved somewhere where he could play Obviously, that would not be the Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes leading the way.
That being said, Wilson needs stability and a good situation for a couple of years. A year or two in Kansas City could help him get back to being comfortable and confident. Just that fact alone makes it intriguing.
Chiefs Could Be Intriguing Zach Wilson Trade Destination
In a recent quote from former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason, he suggested that the Chiefs could be a good pairing for Wilson.
“He’s gonna end up in Kansas City with Andy Reid,” Esiason said. “Andy Reid is gonna pick him up, take him off the scrap heap and turn him into a quarterback.”
While this is no shot at Robert Saleh and the Jets’ coaching staff, being able to be coached by Andy Reid would be a major step towards a bright future for Wilson. Reid is one of the best head coaches in NFL history. He would also be able to learn from Mahomes, which any young quarterback would love to do.
If he were traded to Kansas City, Wilson would have been tutored by both Aaron Rodgers and Mahomes. Wilson would have absolutely no excuses to not succeed. Most young quarterbacks would kill to have an opportunity to learn from both of those NFL legends.
During the 2023 season so far in 11 games, Wilson has completed 60.8 percent of his pass attempts for 2,245 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He is coming off the best game of his young career in Week 14 against the Houston Texans. In that game, he completed 27 of his 36 passes for 301 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions and led the Jets to a huge win.
Expect to hear a lot of rumors and speculation about Wilson heading into the offseason. The Chiefs may not end up being a potential landing spot for him, but the move could make great sense for both parties.
