The Kansas City Chiefs drafted the best quarterback in franchise history when they took Patrick Mahomes with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. What has followed has been nothing short of incredible for their franchise.
However, the 2025 off-season is seeing his name being dragged through the mud.
“He Backed Out Like A Little [expletive]” Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Embroiled In Serious Drama
A dust-up that occurred on Bourbon Street in New Orleans a few days before Super Bowl LIX between former MLB pitcher John Rocker and Patrick Mahomes Sr. went viral in February:
Rocker approached Mahomes Sr. on the street with a beer in his hand and loudly shouted “What’s up, dude?” Mahomes Sr. seemingly wasn’t up for a chat, swatting Rocker’s hand away before the two began exchanging words.
Many believed there was genuine bad blood between the two until Mahomes Sr. admitted several days later that the altercation was staged in an effort to promote their celebrity boxing match at Barstool Sports’ “Rough ‘N Rowdy” pay per view on this weekend.
They were reportedly set to make $85,000 each for the event.
“[It] was a staged altercation to get publicity for [a] celebrity boxing match that was set to take place in April 2025,” Mahomes Sr. told TMZ Sports.
Though the bout was canceled not long after the viral altercation, Rocker is likely upset over losing out on a near-$100,000 pay day and still seemingly harboring ill will toward Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany Mahomes for forcing Barstool Sports to cancel the fight.
“Today is the day I was supposed to fight Pat Mahomes Sr.,” Rocker wrote. “Instead of fighting today he backed out like a little [expletive] because his son and his loser wife decided it’d be a bad look to the family name for him to get in the ring.”
Despite both Mahomes Sr. and Rocker agreeing to terms on the bout and contracts being sent to both men, the fight was called off at the behest of the Mahomes family, according to Barstool founder Dave Portnoy, who name-dropped the Chiefs QB and Brittany when asked why he canceled the fight.
“Mahomes’ agent, the football player, and Brittany, from what I am told, intervened and was like, ‘There is no way this fight is happening. We’re gonna cut this guy off if he does it,’” Portnoy claimed. “So they canceled it.”
