According to Article 7 of the CBA, drafted players are not eligible for an extension until after the player completes their final regular season game of their third season.

“A Rookie Contract for a Drafted Rookie may not be renegotiated, amended or altered in any way until after the final regular season game of the player’s third contract year.”

The Chicago Bears’ former 2nd-round pick has fulfilled the requirements to qualify for a contract extension.

Since Teven Jenkins finished his third season in the NFL, he has met the requirements under the CBA and is eligible for an extension.

He approached the team about an extension.

Jenkins told reporters last Wednesday that his representatives reached out to the Bears about an extension, but nothing is imminent.

“Yeah, we reached out,” Jenkins said, but quickly made it clear where things stood. “Nothing is on the table.”

Teven Jenkins is a talented player but has battled injuries in his first three seasons

Jenkins has developed into a talented offensive lineman who has played three different positions in his first three seasons. Unfortunately, he has battled injuries, causing him to miss 20 out of 51 possible games.

Jenkins missed the first 11 games of his rookie season because of a back injury that required surgery. He played the last six games with two starts at LT. He had 11 pressures, seven hurries, two hits, two sacks allowed, and a 47.5 PFF Grade.

Jenkins converted from LT to RG in his second season. He played 13 games and started 11, with 12 pressures, ten hurries, zero hits, two sacks allowed, and an 80.7 PFF Grade. He missed time because of a calf and a neck injury.

Jenkins missed the first four games because of a leg injury in his third season. When he returned, he converted from LG to RG. He played 12 games and started 11 (7 at LG and 4 at RG). He had 17 pressures, 11 hurries, three hits, three sacks allowed, and a 72.6 PFF Grade.

Will the Chicago Bears extend Teven Jenkins before the regular season, during the season, after the 2024 season, or let him test the open market during the 2025 offseason?
