Chicago Bears Identified as Possible Trade Destination for $30 Million Defensive Tackle

The Denver Broncos aren’t in a good place right now, especially since rookie quarterback Bo Nix has been struggling. Rather than have DJ Jones languish there, the latest NFL analysis has projected the Chicago Bears to be the ideal landing spot for the defensive tackle.

A few months ago, Jones shared insights into the Broncos’ evolving mindset for the 2024 NFL season. Emphasizing the importance of an aggressive approach, the defensive tackle noted that this shift not only enhances their defensive effectiveness but also offers a fresh perspective on the game.

Jones highlighted how attacking from the defensive line allows players to adapt and respond more dynamically during games. By focusing on details and maintaining a relentless attitude, the unit aims to create pressure and disrupt opposing offenses effectively. As he enters his eighth year in the league, Jones believes that this mindset is crucial for both individual and team success.

The defensive line’s strategy revolves around collaboration and communication, allowing players to understand their roles better and respond to various offensive schemes. This collective approach fosters a strong bond among teammates, enhancing their overall performance on the field.

With Denver not really performing as expected, there’s a chance Jones could be moved to another team before the deadline. According to an NFL analysis by ESPN’s Dan Graziano, the possible landing spot is with the Chicago Bears.

The former 49er signed a three-year, $30 million deal with Denver before the 2022 season, so he’s in the final year of his contract, making $10 million. Early returns indicate the Broncos could be in for a rough season, and Jones predates coach Sean Payton there, which could mean the writing is on the wall.

Jones turns 30 in January, so he’s not likely to be a candidate for a long-term extension with a new team, but he could help a contender as a half-season rental. Jones has six tackles and a QB hit through two games.

Potential landing spot: Chicago Bears. Matt Eberflus’ defense has played well to start the season, but his history tells us he doesn’t believe you can be too deep on the defensive line. Other fits include the 49ers, Eagles, Cowboys and Bengals.

With the Bears’ defense performing well but facing depth issues, Jones could provide valuable experience and skill. Currently in the final year of a $30 million contract, his addition would bolster the defensive line alongside starters Andrew Billings and Gervon Dexter Sr.

Ultimately, acquiring Jones could enhance the Bears’ chances of success this season, making him a strategic target for the team’s future. If things go well with both parties, their partnership can potentially result in a meaningful playoff run.
