The Carolina Panthers‘ training camp is already getting chippy. Perhaps carrying frustration over from last season, certain players are wasting no time showing what they are made of at this training. This ultimately led to a fight between several Panthers players earlier this morning.
Who was involved? What led to this fight? Read below to find out.
Jadeveon Clowney Instigates Training Camp Fight
As you can see in this video courtesy of the “For Panthers Fans Only” podcast, Panthers LB Ladeveon Clowney instigated a fight at training camp. This started out with a traditional drill between the offense and defense.
This particular play had the Panthers handing the ball off to RB Chuba Hubbard. If you look closely at the video, you can see Clowney hitting Hubbard hard to end the play. It resulted in Hubbard going down immediately and taking some time to get back up.
Position loyalty came into play here. That is because OT Ikem Ekwonu ended up shoving Clowney after the play was over. It was likely a message to Clowney that he did not appreciate how hard he hit Hubbard during a mere drill.
Of course, Clowney shoved Ekwonu back. It also led to LB K’Lavon Chaisson shoving Ekwonu to back Clowney up. Eventually, several players came close together looking like they were about to have an all-out brawl. In the end, cooler heads prevailed, and the players involved in this shoving match were separated.
Last Chance for Clowney?
Part of the reason why Clowney may have been going hard at training camp is because this may be his last chance to make a mark in the NFL. This is his 11th season. He spent his first five years with the Houston Texans but is now on his fifth team in six years.
Clowney is going to be 31 years old this season. After producing 9.5 sacks with the Baltimore Ravens last season, Clowney is looking to continue that positive momentum in 2024.
Carolina Panthers Moving Forward
The Carolina Panthers were the worst team in the NFL last year. What makes this worse is that they could not even use their top overall pick to draft a franchise player. However, there is a new regime in Carolina that is hoping to turn the team around in 2024. If anything, the Panthers have nowhere to go but up.Get More NFL Content
