The Carolina Panthers enter the offseason with $25.34 million cap space and plenty of team needs. Highlighting one of Carolina’s biggest team needs is cornerback, especially one who can line up opposite Jaycee Horn. The Panthers’ secondary struggled and allowed the tenth-most passing yards and the most passing touchdowns in 2024. Mike Jackson, who started 17 games on the outside, is set to hit free agency as an unrestricted free agent.
Unfortunately, the team decided to part ways with their veteran cornerback after one short season with the team.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Panthers released Dane Jackson, freeing $3.35 million cap space and incurring a $2.5 million dead cap hit for 2025. With the release of Jackson, they now have $28.69 million cap space.

Dane Jackson had a disappointing lone season with Carolina, missing the first six games with a hamstring injury and, upon returning, failed to carve out a consistent role on defense, playing 280 defensive snaps and being used as a rotational piece in the secondary, primarily playing in the slot. He recorded 23 tackles and two pass deflections, allowing 22 receptions on 29 targets for 246 yards, two touchdowns, and a 123.6 passer rating in nine games and three starts.
