The Notre Dame Fighting Irish lost to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the national title game during the 2024 season, 34-23. Notre Dame was one of the biggest stories in college football a season ago and they look to win it all in 2025.

One player who will be one of the driving points in the offense for head coach Marcus Freeman is running back Jeremiyah Love. Love played a big role in the Notre Dame offense during the 2024 college football season as a sophomore. There is no doubt that he will have a chance to be one of the top running backs during the 2025 college football season. If he has another productive season, there is a chance that the Irish running back could be selected in the 2026 NFL Draft.

One of the biggest stories in college football each and every season is who will be in contention to win the Heisman Trophy. The last time a running back won the award was in 2015 when Derrick Henry was with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

However, some people believe that running back Ashton Jeanty should have won the Heisman Trophy in 2024 with the Boise State Broncos. Instead, Colorado Buffaloes cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy instead.

The Fighting Irish running back told Pete Nakos of on3.com about potentially winning the Heisman Trophy for the upcoming 2025 college football season,

“I just want to go out there and win it. That’s a long time, 10 years ago [since a running back won the Heisman]. But maybe this year, I’ll have to make it plus one.””

Love during the 2024 college football season rushed for 1,125 yards on 163 carries and 17 touchdowns, along with averaging 6.9 yards per carry. He also caught 28 passes for 237 yards receiving and two touchdowns, along with averaging 8.5 yards per reception. He is 6’0″ and weighs 206 lbs.

It is going to be interesting to see what kind of start Love will have for the 2025 college football season. There will be a few other names in the Heisman Trophy race for the 2025 season. Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning, Clemson Tigers quarterback Cade Klubnik, Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, and South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback LaNoris Sellers will also be some names to watch for the Heisman Trophy race.

It is going to be extremely difficult for Love to compete with that group for the Heisman Trophy next season. However, there is no doubt that he could be one of the best running backs in the nation next season as well.
