The Buffalo Bills kick off voluntary organized team activities on May 27 and will be held through the 29 before a short break. They will return on June 2, 3, and 5. Once OTAs finish, the Bills will transition into mandatory minicamp, which will run from June 10 to 12.
One position to keep an eye on for the duration of the spring and the summer is defensive end/EDGE, after finishing in the middle of the pack in pressures and sacks last year. The Bills prioritized their EDGE depth, bringing in two veterans in free agency and drafting one on Day 2. Unfortunately, one of their newest additions is dealing with an injury.
Buffalo Bills 5x Pro Bowler suffered a soft tissue injury

The Buffalo Bills signed Joey Bosa in March, hoping he can stay healthy and boost their sack totals in 2025. Bosa is a Pro Bowl-caliber pass rusher when he plays and is healthy, hence his 72 career sacks and five Pro Bowl selections. However, he has battled numerous injuries throughout his nine-year career, missing 41 games, including 23 in the last three seasons.
Unfortunately, Bosa suffered a calf injury last week during workouts. Since it’s a soft tissue injury that can linger, the Bills must play it safe.
Buffalo Bills 5x Pro Bowler out with injury

During Tuesday’s press conference, via Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN, Sean McDermott gave an injury update on Joey Bosa. McDermott said that Bosa will likely miss the rest of spring practices to recover from his calf injury. The good news is that he is expected to be ready for the start of training camp, which begins in late July, giving him plenty of time to heal.
Bills coach Sean McDermott said that everyone but running back James Cook is in attendance for voluntary OTAs.

Here are the 3 players who will see their role increase

AJ Epenesa‘s role will increase with Joey Bosa out until training camp. Epenesa took over as the full-time starter in 2024 and recorded 11 quarterback hits, one safety, and six sacks in 13 starts. He enters a contract year and will be an unrestricted free agent next offseason.
Michael Hoecht‘s role will also increase. Hoecht spent the last five seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, recording 26 quarterback hits and 13.5 sacks in 31 starts, including six quarterback hits and three sacks in 2024. However, the NFL suspended him for the first six games because of PEDs.
Finally, their third-round pick, Landon Jackson, should see an uptick in practice reps. Jackson spent the last three seasons with the Arkansas Razorbacks and recorded 16 sacks in 37 games, including 6.5 in 2024. Since Hoecht is suspended, he will compete for a rotational role/EDGE 3 or 4 position on their defensive line.
