As Bryce Young heads into his second season with the Carolina Panthers, he’s feeling good about where the team currently is, but cautions others to not compare this upcoming season to the abysmal 2023 outing.
“We don’t really talk about last season, we have new players and a new coaching staff so it’s a new team and a new season. For us, it’s not about being better than last season, it’s about being the best version of who we are this year, and everyone has bought into the program.” -Bryce Young
Bryce Young Embraces the Leadership Role
He is also feeling good about his leadership style, telling reporters he’ll do “whatever is best for the team.” As if Young was giving his Senior Speech, he continued, “I’m going to be true and authentic to who I am and I’m not going to be someone that I’m not.” Bryce also understands that being a leader means he needs to “learn [his] teammates, knowing the guys, knowing the team, and then being able to give whatever is necessary.” So far, Bryce seems like he is more than up to the task.

As one of the leaders on the team, Young feels like it’s his responsibility to “fill in the gaps” where needed, emphasizing it’s up to him to control the emotional level of himself and his fellow players. “If we’re in a spot where the energy is low my responsibility is to make sure we bring it up. If it’s where we’re too high it’s my responsibility to make sure we’re focused and locked in.”
Carolina Panthers Offense Forming an Identity
While it is still quite early in the Dave Canales Era, the Carolina Panthers are starting to form their own identity and see the fruits of their labor. And count Young as one of the guys who is “proud of how well the offense has adapted.” He said the identity on offense is going to establish the run game and then play off that. It will be an “attacking offense that wants to do whatever the defense gives.”
Once the Carolina Panthers get up and rolling, they plan to be more of an elite SEAL team, looking for ways to attack the “defensive side but do it in ways that [the offense] specializes in…” “We will be able to week by week go in and find what we feel like we can attack on…” While they’re still growing and getting better at perfecting themselves, that is right where they want and need to be.
Young knows that perfect practice makes perfect and the current Panther organization does too. “Everyone has that urgency to win. We want to treat everything like it’s a game. We want to have game-like reactions and game-like communication, I think that’s really how you learn the most,” the quarterback told reporters.

Part of being a leader is acknowledging your weaknesses, and working like crazy to fix them. Bryce seems to have taken that to heart in the offseason and people outside the Panthers organization are beginning to take notice.
On a recent segment of ESPN’s SportsCenter, Jeremy Fowler recently spoke about the Carolina Panthers and Bryce Young and noted that he has had some impressive moments during the Panthers’ organized team activities and mandatory minicamp.
“Here’s the feeling from the Panthers after coming out of the spring: They believe Bryce Young made two to three ‘wow’ throws most days.” “He was accurate, he showed maturity and taking that easy check down instead of trying to force things and he hit big plays off play-action. Now, the nuances of Dave Canales’ system, footwork, timing, rhythm, that was there but I was told that’s probably going to take a little more time. That’s what training camp’s for, but they believe he’s on the right track so far.” Jeremy Fowler
With all the changes that have already occurred for the Panthers, it will be interesting to see what happens in the next 4-5 weeks before training camp begins.
