The LSU Tigers are entering a pivotal fourth season under head coach Brian Kelly. LSU has not reached the college football playoffs yet under him and yet the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have been more successful since he left the program.

Notre Dame at least reached the national title game against the Ohio State Buckeyes under head coach Marcus Freeman. Freeman has a chance to get themselves back to the big game this upcoming season and LSU has to prove itself. The Tigers need to prove themselves in Week 1 on the road against the Clemson Tigers. Both teams are expected to be ranked in the Top 10 when the college football season begins.
College Football Analyst Claims LSU Tigers and Brian Kelly Must Win Week 1 Matchup Against the Clemson Tigers On the Road

Joel Klatt of FOX Sports was on his own podcast, The Joel Klatt show discussing some pivotal Week 1 matchups of the 2025 college football season. One of the key matchups will be LSU heading on the road to face Clemson. Some think that LSU will have to win this game over Clemson.
Brian Kelly needs this game, guys. He needs this game. Now we all expect LSU to be a really good football team. They’ve gone all in out of the portal. They’ve got a quarterback back. That experience at that position as we’ve seen in the last couple of years with J.J. McCarthy and Will Howard winning national championships. You need experience at that position and now Brian Kelly has it, although he’s 0-3 in season openers.”
This is a game that LSU has to win. They need that big win against a quality opponent, especially if Clemson is going to win the ACC title once again in 2025. Clemson had a down year in 2024 despite winning the conference and they could be even better in 2025. The Tigers (LSU) will be in a tough SEC Conference. Garrett Nussmeier will be LSU’s starting quarterback and Cade Klubnik will be Clemson’s starting quarterback.
This appears to be it for Kelly. If the Tigers do not make the playoffs from the SEC Conference in 2025, there is a good chance that they will be looking for a new head coach for the 2026 college football season.
