On Friday, former Buccaneers DT Warren Sapp stated that he has heard rumors out of Chicago that the Bears are looking to trade away Justin Fields and take Alabama quarterback Bryce Young with the number one overall pick. This comes as a shock considering how well Fields played for the Bears this season. It’s all just rumors at this point, and quite honestly, I’m a little skeptical about it. However, it is definitely something to watch out for, as this could be a massive addition for whoever trades for Fields.

Former Buccaneers DT and HOF Warren Sapp said he’s heard “word” out of Chicago that the Bears are looking to package up Justin Fields and select Bryce Young.

“What I’m hearing out of Chicago is, they’re fixing to package [Justin Fields] up, trade for some other pieces, and go after Bryce… There’s smoke everywhere talking about them trading Justin Fields and going after Bryce.” – Warren Sapp

Will This Be Good for the Bears?

Justin Fields is obviously a spectacular talent, there’s no denying that. To me, this move doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, as you are getting rid of a guy that has already proven himself to draft a rookie that could just as easily be a bust. Not saying that Young will be a bust, but there’s always uncertainty when drafting a quarterback, especially when you want them to start immediately.

On the other hand, it sounds like the Bears are doing this so that they can acquire some highly valued weapons on the offensive side of the ball. Chicago doesn’t have much in terms of pass-catchers, so if they can vastly improve the wide receiver corps, maybe this won’t be so bad for them.

Where Could Justin Fields End Up?

There are a plethora of teams in need of a quarterback, especially in the middle of the draft. I could see the Bears trading with teams like the Commanders, the Titans, or the Jets. Those teams would probably be my top three as of now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a team like Baltimore decided to try and trade for Justin Fields amid all the rumors about Lamar Jackson.

Regardless of where he ends up, I believe he will succeed. There are few, if any situations that are worse for a quarterback than the Bears right now. It’ll be something that we at Gridiron Heroics will continue to monitor.
