The Bosa family would be happy to hear that the Bosa brothers, Joey and Nick, may soon be reuniting in a San Francisco 49ers uniform according to a Chargers insider. The last time the brothers shared the same field was in Florida in 2012, playing varsity football for St. Thomas Aquinas. Both were drafted in the top-3, both wear the number 97, and both have gotten massive contract extensions over the course of their careers. The difference between the two careers has been in the success of the teams they play for. Nick Bosa and the San Francisco 49ers have been in the playoffs annually, whereas Joey Bosa has just three career playoff games with the Chargers.
Chargers Insider Sees Way For Bosa Brothers Reuniting In San Francisco
Daniel Popper of The Athletic spoke to 95.7 The Game about the situation stating, “I wouldn’t rule it out. At the end of the day, Joey Bosa he’s been pretty public about the fact that he’s always wanted to play with his brother.” Joey Bosa has attended many of younger brother Nick’s playoff games. He has seen what a winning organization looks like up close and personal, and he may want to join in on the fun in San Francisco.
This idea of a trade may not be too far-fetched with the Los Angeles Chargers organization overhauling their coaching staff bringing in Head Coach Jim Harbaugh, along with new GM Joe Hortiz . Pair that with Bosa’s recent injury history, and you may have a recipe brewing for a Bosa family reunion in San Francisco. The San Francisco 49ers would have to show a willingness to give up some draft capital in order for this trade idea to work out.
Nick Bosa And The San Francisco 49ers Have A Need For Opposite Edge Rusher
In order for the San Francisco 49ers top defensive end Nick Bosa to avoid being double-teamed or chipped constantly, there must be sufficient edge defenders playing on the opposite side of him. His brother Joey would fit this bill, allowing for both players to play to their full potential. The San Francisco 49ers tried a combination of Drake Jackson, Randy Gregory, Clelin Ferrell, and Chase Young in that role this past season. Each had their share of successes and disappointments, but no one solidified the position to themselves.
If the idea of a Bosa family reunion in San Francisco is to become a reality, there will need to be an agreement between both the 49ers and Chargers organizations. The Los Angeles Chargers would likely be asking for a handsome haul of draft picks, as Joey Bosa is still in the prime of his career. The San Francisco 49ers may not be jumping at the bit to give up such a haul, but it is definitely something worth considering.
This would be a welcome reunion by both brothers, as it would allow them to spend more time with each other as well as making the team better. Offensive lines across the league are monitoring the situation, hoping that they will not have to deal with blocking both brothers at the same time. Keep an eye out for such a reunion, as it would place the San Francisco 49ers defense at or near the top of the league’s best.
