One of the biggest stories this college football season is Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty. Before the start of the college football season, many had him as a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and the first running back off the board potentially.
On Saturday in a 62-30 win over the Utah State Aggies, Jeanty rushed for 186 yards on 13 carries and three touchdowns. He averaged 14.3 yards per carry in the game and did not catch a single pass out of the backfield.
Fans React To Boise State Broncos Running Back Ashton Jeanty Being Ranked As the Favorite To Win the Heisman Trophy
It feels like an eternity since a running back won the Heisman Trophy. The last running back to win the Heisman Trophy was Derrick Henry of the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2015. Ashton Jeanty of the Boise State Broncos has a great chance to be the first running back to win the award since Henry this season.
Entering Week 7 of the college football season, Jeanty is ranked number one in the Heisman Trophy rankings, according to on3.com. Travis Hunter of the Colorado Buffaloes is ranked second, Cam Ward of the Miami Hurricanes is ranked third, Jeremiah Smith of the Ohio State Buckeyes is ranked fourth, and Kurtis Rourke of the Indiana Hoosiers is ranked fifth.
Here is what the fans had to say about the star running back on the Broncos being ranked number one entering the seventh week of the college football season on Twitter:
If @AshtonJeanty2 does not win the Heisman this shit is rigged

Glad three of the top four aren’t QBs
Ashton Jeanty is having a tremendous year

Jeanty is the best combo of strength and speed I’ve seen in 30 years. He’s incredible. If he doesn’t win, it’s rigged for QB’s and bigger schools.

Jeanty should be a lock🔒
Ryan Williams > Jeremiah Smith but could make an argument for both
Klubnik > McCord and Pavia
Love Rourke in there simply because it rocks to see Indiana be relevant— JD Swenson (@jd_swenson13) October 7, 2024
Top 3 is right, in no particular order yet. Still early

There are a lot of games left to be played this season, but there is a chance that Jeanty will run away with this. This is even though Travis Hunter of the Colorado Buffaloes plays both wide receiver and cornerback.
Season Stats
In just five games this season, Jeanty has the Broncos off to a 4-1 start. He has rushed for 1,031 yards on 95 carries and 16 touchdowns, along with averaging 10.9 yards per carry. Ashton Jeanty has only caught six passes for 19 yards receiving and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 3.2 yards per reception.
He is on pace to rush over 2,000 yards and 30 touchdowns this season. What is amazing about his stats is that he is averaging a first down per carry. Those are amazing numbers and this shouldn’t be a contest in who wins the Heisman Trophy if this pace keeps up.
