When the North Carolina Tar Heels hired Bill Belichick to be their next head football coach, they hoped that he would help bring attention to their program and elevate it to the status of perennial contenders. And while the six-time Super Bowl winner certainly has brought attention to the program, it has not been for what might call positive reasons.
These reasons, of course, stem from the 73-year-old Belichick’s relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson. When news of the fact that they were dating became public, the big topic of conversation was their 49-year age gap. But recently, the couple has been in the headlines because of Hudson’s unprofessional and inappropriate behavior in respect to the media.
Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson Have Been Making Bad Headlines

When Belichick was first hired by the Tar Heels, very few could have expected that his young girlfriend would have such a dramatic influence over him. But not long after he started, he told university officials that any emails sent to him must also be forwarded to her, even though she is not an employee of North Carolina.
Due to Belichick’s legendary career, HBO wanted to feature the Tar Heels on a college version of “Hard Knocks.” This is exactly the kind of publicity North Carolina hoped for when they agreed to hire Belichick. However, the network pulled the plug on the project when Hudson insisted on being heavily involved in the production process.
But the latest controversy involving Hudson has easily been the most publicized. During an interview with CBS, she frequently interrupted the conversation, limited what the head coach could and go not say. It was so frustrating for the network that they cancelled a second interview that had already been scheduled.
This development led to a report that North Carolina had banned Hudson from their football facilities. And while the university released a statement saying otherwise, they did make it clear that the only things in which she can be involved are related to Belichick’s pursuit outside of the program.
Bill Belichick May Not Make It to the Regular Season as the North Carolina Head Coach

Pablo Torre, who broke the report about the Tar Heels banning Hudson, recently did another appearance in which he stated that there is a chance that the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach does not make it to the regular season:
“I think there’s a chance, an absolutely real chance, that he doesn’t. And the reason I say that is because even before the Jordon Hudson thing became as public. Even before it went from messy backstage to now obviously messy everywhere, the date that matters the most is June 1st.
“So when this contract was reported, Domonique, when the terms of Belichick’s Carolina contract that made him the highest paid public employee in the state were announced, everybody who follows contractual language pointed out that on June 1st the buyout of Bill Belichick goes from $10 million to $1 million if Bill wanted the escape hatch. Right? So if he wanted out, suddenly it was very interesting that the ammount got ten-times less after June 1st.
“And so the question that everybody is asking is are things so dysfunctional behind the scenes when it comes to the power struggle. When it comes to what they are telling Bill to do. Don’t have Jordon around anymore. Stop behaving in the way that you have. Basically telling him for the first time really, right, that you’re an employee and not the boss of this building in the way that he may have been assuming he would be.
“Then there is the ability for him to get out of it. And that is before you even consider the fact that stuff is so crazy when it comes to how his family feels, how people around the school, that there is this larger, hey, so coach met this woman when she was 19-years old on an airplane and now she’s kind of running his public image as his girlfriend? Is this something that’s sustainable? Is that fireable? What does he have to do to get fired? These are all active questions.”
It will certainly be interesting to see how this whole soap opera plays out. No matter how it ends, though, this is not a good chapter in Belichick’s otherwise respectable career.
