Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made a significant change to his schedule Tuesday that could mean even bigger changes are coming this offseason. Head coach Mike McCarthy was put on the hot seat before their postseason loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round.
With Bill Belichick available as a free agent, Jones could replace McCarthy with a six-time Super Bowl winner. The Cowboys aren’t the only team trying to land Belichick. After reports surfaced that the Atlanta Falcons interviewed Belichick Monday night, Jones must act quickly to hire the legendary head coach.
The Dallas Cowboys leadership made a change on Tuesday
Jones’ unusually hectic schedule this week made him cut out an important gig. According to Shan Sariff with 105.3 The Fan, Jerry and Stephen Jones chose to skip their usual radio time slot on Tuesday. Jerry and Stephen aren’t obligated to be on the radio show when the Cowboys season ends, but they usually talk about the season anyway.
Jerry and Stephen Jones will not be appearing this week @1053thefan. Yes, they have come on in the past to recap the season, but their radio agreements for the year actually expire when the #Cowboys season ends.
The more you know 🙂

Jones’ decision to change his media appearance this week is something to keep an eye on, given the reports about McCarthy’s future and the possibility that the Cowboys could land Belichick. Jones spent Monday dismissing the team. He needs to get going on the head coaching front on Tuesday.
The Eagles are linked to Bill Belichick too
The Cowboys aren’t the only NFC East team linked to Belichick. According to Mike Florio with NBC Sports, the Eagles could move on from Nick Sirianni after the loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night–if they can lock down Belichick:
An unmistakable undercurrent remains that a change isn’t out of the question, if things continue to go poorly against the Bucs. The key could be the availability of Bill Belichick.
Just like in Dallas, where Belichick would be an upgrade over Mike McCarthy, the Eagles could decide to swap out the guy who got to one Super Bowl to the guy who got to nine, and who won six.
It could be that the Eagles don’t want Sirianni to freak out in advance of Monday night’s game. It could be that they wouldn’t make a change unless they were 100 percent certain they’d get Belichick.
There’s only one Belichick to go around this offseason. While the Falcons have already fired their coach and are able to announce publicly they have interviewed Belichick, the Eagles and Cowboys don’t have that luxury.
The Eagles and Cowboys only appear interested in firing their head coach if they can upgrade this offseason by hiring Belichick. They’re not looking to flag the NFL world about talking to Belichick because that would undermine their current head coach.
If the reports and rumors about the Eagles and Cowboys wanting Belichick are accurate, there could be a secret bidding war going on beneath the surface of the NFL this week between two bitter NFC East rivals. The details of such a bidding war will be a fun read if the Eagles or Cowboys can convince Belichick to join their sideline.
We might even get to hear about it on the radio.
