The Chicago Bears got back in the win column this week against the Los Angeles Rams. A D’Andre Swift 36 yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference in their 24-18 win. This win will surely boost the confidence around Chicago’s organization, however, there is one veteran who may not be there in the near future.
Bears Bench, Now Expected To Cut, Starter (Report)
Nate Davis’ three-year, $30 million contract expires this summer, and one longtime Bears insider thinks the team will cut ties with him before then:
In his “10 Thoughts on Week 4” column for September 30, Bears insider Brad Biggs dedicated an entire bullet point to Davis and the likelihood that Chicago will move on from him after the 2024 season. Biggs specifically wrote that “it’s likely the Bears will part ways with him after the season” unless he experienced a “complete turnaround.”
“Davis is signed through the 2025 season but guaranteed money in the deal is up at the end of this year and it’s easy to speculate which direction this is headed for him,” Biggs wrote in Monday’s column.
“What [general manager Ryan] Poles and the Bears cannot afford is to be swayed into a contract they aren’t totally comfortable with for Teven Jenkins to avoid heading into the offseason potentially needing two starting guards.
During Davis’ first season with the Bears in 2023, he struggled with injuries and inconsistent play, as well as a death in the family. In addition to missing most of training camp, Davis also missed six games in the regular season, making Poles’ new front office question investing so much in him.
It will be interesting if Chicago actually moves on from a player who was once thought could be the anchor of their offensive line.
