His teammates are a little excited over his weight room achievement. When you’re throwing up 1.4 times your body weight on four fingers, it’s pretty obvious you’re doing some work in the weight room.
Patience Pays Off
Sims was a 3-star recruit out of San Antonio Clark HS when he signed with the Bears in 2018. After redshirting and two years as a backup, Sims started 13 games last season and totaled 31 receptions for 361 yards (11.6 ypc) and 6 TDs. Sims also had a rushing TD against Texas.
Sims was a key cog in an offense that went from the worst rushing offense in the Big 12 in 2020 to the best in 2021. Baylor’s offense revolves around Jeff Grimes and Eric Mateos’ outside zone scheme, and as the TE, Sims is the lynchpin of the scheme.
Sims’ 9 career receiving TDs are a school record for a TE. He received All-Big 12 Honorable Mention last season, and is pre-season All-Big 12 on some lists. Sims has been named the to Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll six times in his career. He is successful on and off the field, and is an example that hard work and patience pay off.
If the Bears are to repeat as Big 12 Conference champions in 2022, team leaders like Sims will be at the forefront of that effort.
