The Southern Miss Golden Eagles travel to New Orleans to face off against the Tulane Green Wave in the Battle for the Bell at Yulman Stadium.

The rivalry is a great one.takcle

The two schools are only two hours apart from each other, and have always traveled well to the opponent’s stomping grounds.

    There are ties that bind.

12 players from Mississippi are on the Tulane roster.

USM has six players from Louisiana on its roster.

Will Hall, Golden Eagles head coach, spent two years on the staff at Tulane with Willie Fritz as offensive coordinator in 2019 and 2020.

The Golden Eagles and Green Wave have met twice since Fritz took over as head coach of the Green Wave seven years ago.

Tulane won both games, including a 30-13 win over the Golden Eagles in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas on January 4, 2020.

In the 2020 season, Tulane traveled to Hattiesburg and defeated Southern Miss 66-24.

Southern Miss defeated Tulane six straight times, prior to the Tulane victory in the Armed Forces Bowl.

Tulane won the first meeting in 1920 defeating Southern Miss in Hattiesburg.

Tulane and Southern Miss have agreed to a four-year contract to play between this year and 2027 beginning Saturday night.

Southern Miss (1-2) are coming off their first win of the season, defeating Northwestern State 64-10 in Hattiesburg, Miss.

The Southern Miss offense has been solid despite quarterback issues, averaging 41 points per game.

Tulane (3-0) are coming off their biggest win in quite some time, a 17-10 knocking off Kansas State in Kansas.

Tulane has allowed just 20 points total in their first three games.

Currently the Green Wave is a two-touchdown favorite at home.

These great rivals should find a way to play annually, extending the current four-year deal.

Overall, Southern Miss leads the series 23-9.
