The Baltimore Ravens will be going into the 2024 season with one of the bigger chips on their shoulder in the league. Last season the Ravens believed they were the team to beat in the AFC all season long. That made sense given their 13-4 record to end the season and the #1 overall seed going into the playoffs.
However, the Ravens ran into Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game. While that loss certainly stung, it provided much motivation for the 2024 Ravens.
Could a familiar face be re-joining the Ravens for a 2024 revenge tour?
The Baltimore Ravens Could Add Familiar Face For The 2024 Season
Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report highlighted how a reunion between Yannick Ngakoue and the Ravens could happen in 2024:
The Baltimore Ravens are no strangers to late Summer pickups. They added Jadeveon Clowney and Ronald Darby right around this time last season. Both went on to be key defensive contributors for a team that won the AFC North.
Once again, they are a few weeks from the season starting and could use a boost on the defensive side of the ball.
New defensive coordinator Zach Orr is going to be relying on Odafe Oweh and/or David Ojabo to come alongside Kyle Van Noy to anchor the pass rush. Oweh has just 13 sacks in his first three seasons. Orr has expressed his excitement about Ojabo, but he’s played just five games in his first two seasons due to injury.
The free agent market is meager at this point, but Yannick Ngakoue stands out as an option who could help.
The 29-year-old only had four sacks last season, but he posted 41 total pressures and a pressure rate of 11 percent, per Sports Info Solutions.
Adding the veteran, who played for the Ravens in 2020, could be helpful as the Ravens try to repeat as AFC North champions in 2024.
In 2024, the Baltimore Ravens will have a tough act to follow after leading the league with 60 sacks last season.
Aside from regression, the loss of Jadeveon Clowney, who had 9.5 sacks last season, is a major concern. Despite this, pass rush coach Chuck Smith remains confident in his team:
“I really don’t even care what people think [to be] honest with you, because at the end of the day, we’re going to go out and do our best… My goal is to really impact quarterbacks by beating them up – simple as that,” Smith said after Monday’s practice.
“If we beat up the quarterbacks, and his ending is not always the way he wants, then we had an impact, and the numbers will come.”
It will be interesting to see how the Ravens try to follow up on their 2023 pass rush numbers.
