Only five players have won back back-to-back NFL MVP awards. Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was the last to do it in 2020-2021.

The Pittsburgh Steelers did not re-sign either Justin Fields or Russell Wilson in the offseason. There were many questions about the Steelers quarterback position after the 2025 NFL Draft despite drafting quarterback Will Howard from the Ohio State Buckeyes in the later rounds.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger warms up prior to facing the The Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV, in Arlington, Texas, Sunday, February 6, 2011.

Last week, the Steelers finally signed quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a one-year $13.65 million deal. Rodgers will be the starting quarterback now for Pittsburgh. Mason Rudolph will most likely be his backup quarterback for the 2025 NFL season. What’s the Steelers biggest storyline entering mandatory minicamp?

CBS Sports Thinks Aaron Rodgers Finally Arriving With the Pittsburgh Steelers Is Something To Watch For In Mandatory Minicamp

The Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, left, and quarterback Aaron Rodgers team up against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV, in Arlington, Texas, Sunday, February 6, 2011.

CBS.com writer Tyler Sullivan wrote about one headline for each AFC team entering mandatory minicamp later this week. One of the biggest headlines for the Steelers is Rodgers finally arriving to the team. He is one of a few players to watch in mandatory minicamp, along with running backs Jaylen Warren and rookie Kaleb Johnson.

Sullivan said about Pittsburgh’s current situation entering mandatory minicamp,

“At long last, Aaron Rodgers has signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. And his arrival to the Steel City comes just in time for minicamp. How quickly the four-time NFL MVP can get up to speed learning the Steelers’ offense will, of course, be the major storyline of minicamp, along with the rapport he can build up with star wideout DK Metcalf.

Outside of the situation under center, the Steelers’ backfield could also be a position battle that garners attention. After Najee Harris signed with the Chargers in free agency, Jaylen Warren looks primed to become Pittsburgh’s lead back after years in a more complementary role. While that could still be the case, the club did draft Kaleb Johnson in the third round out of Iowa. How those two split reps will be an indicator of how this battle is going as we gear up for training camp.”

Rodgers, Rudolph, and Howard is the projected quarterback depth chart for Pittsburgh. For now, Warren will be the starting running back for the Steelers and Johnson will be the second running back on the depth chart. The projected starting wide receivers for the Steelers will be Metcalf, Robert Woods, and Calvin Austin III.

Pat Freiermuth is projected to be the starting tight end for Pittsburgh. A question for this football team on offense entering the 2025 NFL season will be the offensive line. It is good that Rodgers came in on time for mandatory minicamp, so he could be ready for training camp and the 2025 NFL season.

During the 2024 NFL season with the New York Jets, he completed 63.0% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. It is going to be interesting to see what kind of relationship that Rodgers and head coach Mike Tomlin will have with each other during the 2025 NFL season. He is 41 years old and hopes to get to the Steelers back to the playoffs after they finished with a 10-7 record during the 2024 NFL season.
