The Texas Longhorns will be entering the 2025 college football season with championship expectations. Texas will be at the top of the food chain when it comes to the national picture and also the SEC Conference as well.

The Longhorns have a lot riding in season five under head coach Steve Sarkisian. Texas will also be banking on quarterback Arch Manning to get them to a national title. However, there is a world where things could go south for Manning and this Texas football program for the 2025 season despite putting a lot of NIL money into this roster.
CBS Sports Reveals Worst-Case Scenario Involving the Texas Longhorns and Arch Manning For the 2025 College Football Season

Brad Crawford of CBS Sports listed a best-case scenario and a worst-case scenario for each team in the SEC Conference. Texas finished with a 11-1 record during the regular season in 2024. It would be a surprise if things went south for them in 2025, but there is a world where that could transpire.
Crawford thinks that the worst-case scenario for the Longhorns in 2025 could be finishing with an 8-4 record. He said,
“Arch Manning struggling under the pressure or suffering an early-season injury might be the only scenarios in which Texas falls out of the AP Poll this fall. The Buckeyes could easily take the opener and road matchups at Florida and Georgia will bring hostile environments.”
Texas lost to Ohio State in the college football playoff semifinals last season and the Longhorns also lost to Georgia twice. It would not be a surprise if the Longhorns lost to the Buckeyes or the Bulldogs once again, but the major shock and alarm would be if they lost to the Gators. Florida will be improved, but Texas has much more talent at the moment.
There would also be a chance that the Longhorns would once again slip up in the Red River Rivalry against the Oklahoma Sooners as well. Manning not producing in 2025 would be a major shock, considering the fact he will be one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy and also potentially one of the top selections in the 2026 NFL Draft as well.
Texas wouldn’t have the luxury of having two reliable quarterbacks in 2025 if Manning were to get injured. The hype for Manning will no doubt be real in 2025 and he will have to live up to it.
